Ever since switching from Direct TV to Verizon FIOS last February, I’ve regretted that decision.

Not only does Verizon have the same issue I was so upset with Direct TV about (so obviously it wasn’t the fault of Direct TV), but the FIOS program guide sucks, and the DVR is, by far, the absolute worst DVR in the world. The hard drive is half the size of every other DVR hard drive in the world, and it’s not nearly as intuitive as that of Direct TV’s.

So after 8 hours spent running new cables, and upgrading a few other items, I’m finally back in business with Direct TV. It’s a good thing the technician/installer arrived at 9 AM.

Yes, there may be an early termination fee (although the Verizon service rep said there wouldn’t be one), but with the deal Direct TV was offering, access to every channel for the next 5 months, home media DVR, and NFL Sunday ticket, for only $79/per month, I’m still way ahead of the game. And even after the 5 months is up, the total cost will still be less than what I was paying Verizon.

Plus now I have 120 hours of HD recording time available to me (FIOS only had 20 hours), as I was able to re-hook up my 1 Tb hard drive. [I'll never have to leave the house again. :) ]

Finally, something I can be pleased about. Now if only my faith in the American electorate would be restored this November, I might actually have reason to celebrate. It’s just I have my doubts. Even people I once thought were more intelligent than most, I’ve discovered aren’t.

And for those who have been sitting on pins and needles waiting to find out what I’ve decided about getting a new bike, well for now I’ve decided not to. First off the color the club decided on isn’t to my liking, and secondly it seems the new company has no product liability insurance, which could prove problematic should issues develop with the bike down the road.

It’s been pretty boring lately. I have been doing a lot of bike riding, managing to get 700 miles in last month, despite the week of rain in January, but after a 3 week hiatus, the rain is back today, and I’m house bound. I could have gone to the gym, but I just wasn’t interested.

Have I mentioned before, how much I hate the winter?

Plus there’s been a dearth of idiotic posts on the message boards for me to write about lately, making things even more boring, and leaving me with nothing much to comment about.

So here I sit in front of my computer trying to invent something to write about, without much success, I’ll add, while I wait for Verizon to come and install my new FIOS internet and TV service. I just got fed up dealing with the audio dropping out constantly on my Direct TV whenever I watch something in HD w/Dolby, and Direct TV’s only response is to adjust and remount the dish.

Oh well, I may just end up going to the gym anyways [but I doubt it], as it looks like Verizon isn’t going to get here in time to complete the installation of my new service today. It’s already after 3 PM, and if they think I’m going to sit around for another 4 hours while they install it tonight, they better think again.

At least they called earlier to tell me they were running late. I’m sure the rain is causing some installation issues, and I know I wouldn’t want to be working in this kind of weather. It’s not much of a consolation, but it is something. We’ll see how they handle the reschedule.
