No, I just think doctors and others are starting to realize, we're spending far too much time in the house [on computers], and not spending enough time outside [living] getting enough sunlight.

You'd be better off spending more time in the sun.

<a href="http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/" target=_blank" rel="nofollow">The skin produces approximately 10,000 IU vitamin D in response [to] 20–30 minutes [of] summer sun exposure—50 times more than the US government's recommendation of 200 IU per day!

I just had blood work done and my doctor told me the same thing. He wants me to take 2000 units of Vitamin D a day. I have started yet.

My in-laws were told the same thing. Is there some new test or something?

Why is hypercalcimia a problem? Do you just absorb more of the natural calcium through the food we eat? That only seems like a problem if you were taking a calcium supplement as well.

And are you taking Vitamin D or D3, and is there a difference? I have only seen D3 available.

Getting your Vit D "checked" is easy if you have health insurance that will cover it (I don't). I think there are enough studies for various ailments (specifically coronary artery disease) that it's reasonable for everyone to take a Vit D supplement. (safer than sun exposure).

I take 2000 units/day. The only downside is possible hypercalcemia. A serum Calcium is a lot cheaper than a serum Vit D level.
