At the crack of dawn

categoriesCycling, Day to Day Life

While progress has been made fighting the wild fires in southern California overnight, there is still the smell of smoke in the air, and the sky has that eerie look to it.

But even with all the devastation around us, it did make for one spectacular sunset last night, and it’s still a good excuse for not going on a bike ride this morning.

    Hi Marc,

You are safe, right? Fires are not threatening your home??

  2. Marc am 16.11.2008 um 9:23 am Uhr

No, we’re good. Fortunately we’re a long way from the fire. Plus the winds are now shifting to being out of the south west, bringing us cleaner air, and clearing up the skies overhead.

I see the Triangle Fire is 0 % contained. Is that near David? Sayre fire (LA) is 30% and Tea fire (Montecito) is 75%.

It’s ironic how each fire started exactly a day a part all over the state, isnt’ it?

PS Don’t forget Joel might have jury duty this week.

I think I may have been a little premature with my previous assessment of the situation. What appeared to be shifting winds and clearing skies, appear to be neither shifting nor clearing very much at the moment.

And the ash continues to fall!

We were hosting evacuees at our house. We were a safe 2 miles away. The fire burned right up to within 100 yards of the kids school. Kim, Chuck and the kids had to spend the weekend at our house.

So you consider 2 miles a safe distance? I guess as long as you don’t have to breathe the air, you might consider that safe, but……..

Anywaze, I just went for a short walk, and I couldn’t smell any smoke, so I think we’re safe now. Maybe you should be coming down here and let Kim and Chuck stay at your house. :)

The “safe 2 miles away” was intended to be sarcastic……

Not too smokey at our house, but it does smell like a campfire.
